Allergy Testing

Yesterday we took Daniel to St. George to an allergy specialist.  He has been having very harsh allergies so far this summer.  His nose is always congested and running with lots of sneezing, and his eyes get super huge and swollen with lots of stuff in them all the time.  So we figured we could at least find out what he is allergic to and then try to keep him away from the stuff as best as we can.  We got there and the assistant was very nice, she has a little boy Daniel's age so she was really really great with him.  Luckily Daniel isn't a hard kid though, he likes going to new places and thinks everyone is his friend, so he didn't mind being there at all.  Plus they had some cool toys and that will keep Daniel happy no matter what he's doing.  They did an x-ray of Daniel's head to see how his sinuses were doing and he sat so well for that to, very still.  Turns out the left side of his sinuses are completely blocked off with infection and the doctor has prescribed him with a LOT of antibiotics and some steroids to try and get that unblocked as soon as possible, he is very concerned about the infection and allergies together causing Daniel to have asthma.  After that they had to poke the little guy with about 60 different pokes on his back.  Not fun at all and poor Daniel did such a good job at trying to be brave. It's hard to be brave though when someone keeps poking your back. After getting poked you have to wait for about 15 minutes to see what pokes welt up, whatever welts is a positive reaction meaning he's allergic to it.  Turns out he's allergic to a lot of stuff, the doctor walked in after 15 minutes and almost fell over in surprise, he was totally taken back by how many things Daniel had a reaction to.  They gave us some Flonaze for his nasal allergies and for everything else right now we just have to try and keep him away from all the stuff he is allergic to.  In a few more years when he is eight we can start getting him shots to try and get his body immune to the things he's allergic to but right now he is too young for that.  Daniel ended up being allergic to:

Whole Milk
Soybeans
Eggs
Cashews
Almonds
Shellfish
Tomatos
Strawberries
Raw Apples
Pears
Slight reaction to Corn but not bad
Cats
Dogs
Horses
Most trees
Most shrubs and bushes
Almost all grass especially Kentucky Blue grass
So that's pretty much the list of everything that we have found out that he is allergic to so far. There were a couple others but the doctor was pretty sure that they were just false positives, he said just to keep our eye out on him when he eats them. We have to take Daniel back in about a month to make sure that his sinuses has been totally cleared out though since that is the main concern right now.

Oh wow. Poor little guy! Thanks for the perspective for those of us that think we have it so rough with allergies this summer!

Poor kiddo!! I know exactly how he feels! I went to the allergy Dr. and I reacted to EVERY ONE except 1. They decided I was probably allergic to the test, but they gave me a list a mile long of things to avoid if possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!
