Dr. Disaster

So I don't know how many people know, but in August of last year I miscarried and had to have a D&C done. Exactly a week after that, I was still in so much pain that Shaun took me to the ER and I had to have another emergency D&C cause the Dr. said I had some extra tissue that needed to still go. After wards he never gave me another check up and told me I was fine and kinda rushed me out a little, I was a little concerned about it but I figured, oh well and just went about life. Well the pain never actually went totally away and a few months ago the pain started to get worse, it was a pain in my abdomen that was starting to get really intense and at times unbearable. When I tried to contact my last two doctors who had worked with me during the miscarriage and performed the D&C, I was just told it was part of the healing process and the other doctor couldn't even fit me into his schedule for a few months. I knew that something was wrong and I couldn't just live with the pain for a few more months, so I started seeing a new doctor, a wonderful guy who fit me in to his schedule right away and started trying to figure out what was wrong immediately. During my first appointment my new doctor got my medical history from the other doctors office to try and figure out what he was looking for. Turns out during my first D&C I had started bleeding way more then expected for that kind of procedure and the doctor had to put a lot of extra meds in me and in my IV and it took some time and I bleed a lot but they finally stopped it, well the doctor never mentioned a word about it, he told Shaun that everything went just fine. My new doctor was very surprised about this and found it very disturbing that the first doctor had told us everything went fine when really it didn't. After some tests and ultrasounds and not being able to find anything the next step was to do a scope. After the scope was done my new doctor found two places in my uterus that had been perforated and caused scar tissue in my uterus and also poked through enough to cause scar tissue in my stomach canal. Now to top it off, when the first doctor did the D&C he scrapped so hard that he actually sealed off the opening to my right Fallopian tube. That my new doctor doesn't feel qualified enough to fix, I'll have to go to a specialist in Las Vegas to see if he can do it or not, seeing as it would be hard to re-open without causing more damage. So what do I do about my old doctor who caused this whole mess and to me, looks like he tried to hide it. He knew I bleed too much and he had to have known that something didn't go right, yet he never gave me another check up to see. I don't sue people, I could never imagine suing anyone, but what if he has done this to other women? What if he is going to do it to others? What do I do? What can I do to let him know? What if he knows but doesn't care? I'm just kinda stuck on what to do now, cause he's defiantly hurt my chances on having more kids and I don't want that to happen to any other woman. So what should I do?

You should take legal action. You should sue. He deserves to be held responsible for the pain he has caused. Even though you may feel awful suing someone, you have to remember that you are not suing HIM as a person, you are suing HIM as a doctor. He has insurance, so any type of settlement wouldn't come out of his pocket. This is YOUR life. If nothing else, he should be held responsible for any follow-up care you have to receive and for emotional distress caused. I hope you are able to have more children and that things will smooth over. Goof luck Jesica!

You need to take legal action for sure! How do you not know that he has done this to other women? Doctors are there to take care of ppl because we are not eduated specifically for it! He obviously didnt worry too much about you and your feelings, and your future 'struggles' trying to get pregnant...so don't worry about his. People sometimes need things like this to happen to show that they need to be more careful and take better care of thier patients. SUE HIS @$$!

That is a very very very difficult question! I don't feel at all qualified to give an opinion, if that's even what you were looking for. All I can say is, consider all the possibilities, then take it to the Lord through prayer. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, it makes my heart hurt. Good luck!

I agree with Darci. You need to do something. Because ultimately it is not your fault and you shouldn't be paying for all the extra medical bills. Let me know if I can do anything for you. You are in my prayers and I love ya!

I just found your blog. :-) I agree. You do need to sue. Not for the money(but use the money to pay for any medical bills that will come from his mistakes), but so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. This doctor thinks he can get away with mistakes and not tell people about it. That is wrong. He knew he did something wrong, but didn't tell you about it and refused to see you. If you are having immense pain, doctors can let you in in a minute. They purposely leave slots open for such cases. I know, I've have stomach problems for years and sometimes need to be seen at a moments notice.
